The humanities shape our life in society – in art ap-preciation and intercultural understanding as well as shaping our education system or economy. The “Freedom for Research in the Humanities” initiative is aimed at rooting the humanities in the consciousness of the population in the long term.

The aim of the "Science Year of the Humanities" was to shine a light on the excellence of the humanities in Germany. At the same time, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched the "Freedom for Research in the Humanities" programme.
