The DFG and the Indian Department of Science & Technology sign agreement
The German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Indian Department of Science & Technology (DST) are working to improve the opportunities open to German-Indian collaboration in all fields of basic research.
Building on the joint agree ment of October 2004, the DFG and DST have now launched the second initiative to jointly fund bilateral projects. This will also enable scientists in Germany to submit proposals for German-Indian collaborative projects in all subject areas under the DFG Individual Grants programme. Proposals for German-Indian collaborative projects can be submitted both to the DFG and the DST in accordance with the respectively applicable guidelines.
The DFG and DST provide a joint proposal form that must be used by both sides. The Indian partners submit their proposals to the DST. They must meet the eligibility requirements as set out in the DST Guidelines. The DFG office in India has also reported a change: Dr. Torsten Fischer is the new Director. He replaces Dr. Gernot Gad, who has been in charge of the New Delhi office since its opening in autumn 2006. The DFG also plans to play a lead role in establishing the German House of Science and Innovation in India.
NB: Please pay particular attention to the deadline on the Indian side (31 July 2009), since the DFG has requested that proposals are submitted to the DST and DFG simultaneously to facilitate the co ordina tion of the review process. A decision on joint funding for the proposals is to be expected in February 2010.
