Research in Germany: Annual Report 2009

Annual Report 2009

9/1/10

Source: Research Centre Jülich (FZJ)

Jülich researchers are sought-after experts. After Eyjafjallajökull erupted in Iceland, Jülich scientists provided valuable data identifying the cloud of ash with the aid of the LIDAR laser system. After the mass panic during the Love Parade, Jülich researchers were the people the media turned to because they were already working on improving safeguards against such catastrophes within the scope of the "Hermes" collaborative project. The Annual Report 2009 provides an overview of research projects and fields of work dealt with by the 4,600 employees of our Helmholtz Centre, which understands its mission as developing key technologies for the 21st century. The report is currently available in German only; the English translation will be published soon.
