The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) reports regularly on the state of Germany's system of research and innovation. The website offers several evaluations on the various aspects of Germany’s R&D performance.

The DFG Funding Ranking provides information on the involvement of German universities and non-university research institutions in DFG funding programmes, as well as those of other national and international third-party funding bodies.

To foster Europe's scientific integration and to strengthen its international outreach, the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) was formed by the European Council as a strategic instrument. The website provides facts and figures on research infrastructures throughout Europe.

This is where visitors can search for OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) reports and statistics on Germany in chronological order or by topic. It also offers the option of downloading the whole OECD Economic Survey on Germany.

The OECD Science, Technology and Industry (STI) Scoreboard is published once every two years and investigates recent advances in science, technology and industry, and the development of national innovation strategies. This is where users can find information on the internationalisation of research worldwide.

Competition is a key element in science and research. Hence, research rankings have experienced a boom with the result that many institutes carry out research rankings today. The website of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) provides the relevant links. 

Together with the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) and the Germany's leading weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT, the DAAD offers the English version of the university ranking, the most comprehensive and detailed ranking in Germany. Since 1998, a total of 286 universities have been included in the ranking, with more than 250,000 students and around 31,000 professors taking part.

Wissenschaft weltoffen is a data report on the international nature of studies and research in Germany. The report contains, not least, statistics on foreign academics and scientists in Germany and on German academics and scientists abroad. Wissenschaft weltoffen will be updated annually.
