During the last decades Germany increased its expertise in regenerative medicine, especially focusing the translation from findings in basic research into therapies for patients. Recently, six research centres in Berlin, Dresden, Hannover, Leipzig, Rostock and Stuttgart have been established to concentrate scientific excellence in research and to develop clinical applications.

Besides many federal states developed networks, centres, clusters and other infrastructures with a focus on stem cell research and regenerative medicine.  These research centres and institutions are working in the following fields:

  • Cardiovascular Diseases
  • Diabetes & Islet-Transplantation
  • Immunological Diseases
  • Musculoskeletal Diseases
  • Neurodegenerative Diseases
  • Organogenesis / Organregeneration
  • Multi- & Pluripotent Stem Cells
  • Biomaterials
  • Tissue Engineering
