A rapid analysis of the patient's condition is necessary to support the medical diagnosis and to allow swift Intervention by the physician (e.g. in emergency medicine). Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBVT and the IHP - Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics are developing diagnostic microsystems which integrate all of the necessary processes into one device: from taking samples to transmitting the analytical information to the accident and emergency department.
The currently achieved degree of miniaturization Breaks new ground and enables the combination of on-the-spot sample analysis and signal processing with the subsequent transfer of this information to data nodes or networks.
