KMU-innovativ - Priority for cutting-edge research in the SME sector

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are in the vanguard of technological progress in many areas. Through KMU-innovativ, the BMBF is supporting cutting-edge research in important future areas such as biotechnology among others.

GO-Bio - From researcher to entrepreneur

"We need scientists in Germany who think entrepreneurially." This was how Federal Minister for Research Annette Schavan described the goals of Gründungsoffensive Biotechnologie (Founding Push Biotechnology) (GO-Bio) in 2005. Over five rounds of the competition, 150 million euros have been devoted to the initiative.

BioFuture : A Future for Young Researchers

By providing support for junior researchers we are investing in our future. BioFuture successfully supports young researchers in biotechnology and its neighbouring disciplines.


 The goal of the Biopharma funding is to help encourage innovative pharmaceutical development in Germany.

BioPharma – A step to the “World’s Pharmacy”

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched the Pharmaceuticals Initiative for Germany in order to give new impetus to Germany's biotechnology and pharmaceuticals industries. The key element of the initiative is the BioPharma Competition.

BioIndustrie 2021 – Nature’s tricks for a sustainable production

For industry, biotechnological procedures, which exploit the microorganisms’ natural tricks, are the keys to the solution of a set of problems. In order to further promote this business activity, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) initiated the cluster competition BioIndustrie 2021 in the autumn of 2006.

BioRegio and BioProfile Competitions

The BioRegio and BioProfile competitions are addressed to regions which boast special profiles in particularly future-oriented fields of application of modern biotechnology.

Strengthen competences in nutrition research

GABI-FUTURE and PLANT-KBBE – unlocking potential of plants
