Research in this area focuses on scenarios in which a large number of people are injured or endangered in attacks, large-scale accidents, natural disasters, etc. In addition to the early detection of disturbances and effective crisis prevention, the key areas of funding are crisis management through the fast and efficient initiation of emergency and security measures as well as the provision of effective on-site emergency care. The collaborative projects are developing full-scope safety and rescue solutions that comprise integrated technologies, strategies for action and patterns of organization.
Below please find selected research projects. More research projects can be found here: http://www.bmbf.de/en/12916.php
Intelligent localization system for rescuing people trapped or buried under rubble: The project focuses on key aspects and challenges in terms of emergency medicine, crisis intervention psychology, law and the technology required for the targeted and timely rescue of people who have been trapped or buried under rubble. (Project terminated).
Navigation infrastructure for fire-fighters: The objective of the research project is to develop an orientation and navigation infrastructure based on ubiquitous computing technology. This infrastructure will effectively build on the capabilities of the emergency forces. (Project terminated).
Integrated sensory protective clothing system for fire brigades and disaster management: The aim of the project is to develop an integrated sensory clothing system for use in the workplace as personal protective equipment. The systems to be integrated will comprise a recording and communications system with local positioning systems to support operations and initiate aid and rescue measures for fire brigades and disaster management. (Project terminated).
