As a nation with a long cultural and scientific tradition, Germany offers exceptional infrastructure for research work:  pproximately 8,400 public and 240 academic libraries guarantee outstanding research opportunities. 3. Good funding opportunities

Germany welcomes international graduates and many funding organisations support foreign PhD students. For instance, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supported 2,580 international doctoral candidates with individual funding in 2008. In addition, the DAAD supports some 2,000 foreign doctoral candidates a year in various projects. In exceptional cases, a full doctoral programme in Germany can be funded for up to four years.
