Budget

The varied nature of these organisations and their sponsors is also reflected in their finances. However, most of the budget is provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Since the 1950s the number of students at universities and universities of applied sciences receiving support has steadily increased. Since 2006 their proportion of total student numbers has risen by roughly half to 1%. Roughly 8% of these scholarship holders have a migrant background or come from abroad.
