Research Trips & Short Research Stays

Excellent summer courses and schools in Germany offer an ideal opportunity to gain an impression of German higher education and research institutions. The German Summer Academies programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) enables young and highly qualified scholars to complete specialised courses in the latest research areas and thereby also provides opportunities to establish long-term contacts with interesting research institutions.
A research stay in Germany of two weeks to three months can be funded within the framework of the DAAD programme for the Bilateral Exchange of Academics. The DAAD pays the costs resulting from the stay, while travel expenses must be borne by the partner institution in the respective country.
Under certain circumstances, the International Bureau of the BMBF will finance the costs of stays by guest researchers. Applications must be submitted by the inviting higher education institution or company.
Many foundations with specialised objectives reward especially good research work or support postdoctoral researchers with smaller research or travel grants.
