In the interview in this month’s issue of our newsletter, Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Hartmut Michel talks about his research and the 63rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. 35 Nobel laureates will discuss a variety of subjects, including green chemistry and chemical energy conversion and storage.
On the occasion of the Nobel Laureate Meeting, this edition of our newsletter deals with the key issue of chemistry. It introduces three young participants of this unique forum and reports on exciting research news. You will, for example, learn more about a new biochemical material produced by a research team from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. The new material, which is both elastic and durable, has enormous potential in the production of protective clothing and special coatings.
You will also find more information about two Graduate Schools of Excellence and two Clusters of Excellence that focus on the field of chemistry. “Unifying Concepts in Catalysis” (UniCat), for example, is the only Cluster of Excellence engaged in research on catalysis, an area that is of significant economic importance.
