Leading organisations in environmental technologies in Hessen have formed a network to promote Hessian environmental expertise in Russia. This network is coordinated by the Ost-West-Wissenschaftszentrum (OWWZ) and comprises the following institutions:
University of Kassel, the University of Environmental Sciences:
The University of Kassel was founded in 1971 with a reform approach: it unites natural, technical and cultural sciences in a way to advance interdisciplinary cooperation and innovative problem solving methods. In the field of environmental research the university focuses on sustainable resource management, integrated water management, renewable energy systems and energy efficiency, bio-energy research, environmental systems modelling, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
OWWZ:
Established in 1992, the OWWZ is a Hessian Competence Centre for Cooperation in Research and Knowledge Transfer with universities and R&D organisations in Central and Eastern Europe. Since 2003 the OWWZ has been advising all universities in Hessen and has developed central initiatives which strengthen the research and development network with partners in Central and Eastern Europe.
deENet:
Founded in 2003, deENet is representing more than 100 companies, service providers and research institutions in the field of distributed power generation and energy efficiency. Based on the extensive experience of deENet member companies in the field of distributed/renewable energy systems and energy efficiency, deENet is able to develop technical solutions for complex supply tasks. The network’s objectives are regional value creation, common R&D activities, joint initiatives to open new markets, development of demonstration and pilot projects etc.
W.E.N.:
Water Engineering Network was founded in 2005 by 10 members in Hessen, Germany. The Water Engineering Network unites residential water management, hydraulic engineering, hydrology, agrology, agriculture, geology, and chemistry experts for projects, jointly in a consortium or for single work. The experts are scientists and practitioners from different, water relevant disciplines. It consists now of nearly 20 members, as: well regeneration by ultrasound without chemicals, IWRM management and education, well construction, water treatment, waste water treatment, soil, water and waste engineering, hydrogeology and environment, Close to Nature technology, reed bed treatment systems, hydraulic inspections, water network construction, environmental resources management, water treatment and groundwater protection, environmental systems research.
Activities in the funded project:
The project „Hessen goes East“ will communicate the research and technology site Hessen in Russia and strengthen the role of Hessen in the German-Russian cooperation in the range of environment. During the project period from April 2008 to September 2009 following activities are planned:
- Presentation of Hessian Environmental Technologies within a German-Russian Forum in Moscow from October 21st to October 24th, 2008 (partner: Brücke-Osteuropa e.V.) with
- Marketing tour to Russian scientific institutes and companies in the region of Moscow
- German-Russian Environment Seminar for Hessian and Russian junior scientists with excursions to Hessian environmental institutes and companies in May 2009
- Match meetings and individual project consultancy for German-Russian cooperation partners
- Information and Communication Platform: German-Russian Network Environmental Research and Technologies
The target of the activities is to arrange partnerships in science and development, to enhance the transfer of Hessian Environmental Technologies to Russia and to encourage the mutual mobility particularly of junior scientists.
