79 international young researchers from 28 countries to meet in Kiel

Fellows’ meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the University of Kiel from 8 to 10

February 79 young researchers from 28 countries will be guests at Christian Albrechts University in Kiel (CAU) from 8 to 10 February 2012 for the network meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The fellows of the Foundation will be working together with colleagues in Germany. The purpose of the event is to introduce the new Humboldtians to each other and to Kiel - representatively for Germany as a research location. Employees of the Foundation will offer the Humboldtians advice on living and conducting research in Germany.

Opening: Wednesday, 8 February, 3 p.m.
Venue: Klaus Murmann Auditorium, Leibnizstraße 1, 24118 Kiel

On Wednesday, 8 February, at 3 p.m., the Vice President of the University of Kiel, Thomas Bosch, and the Secretary General of the Humboldt Foundation, Enno Aufderheide, welcome the participants in the Klaus Murmann Auditorium of the university. The opening address, “Climate dynamics: Lessons from the past", will be held by Leibniz Award winner Wolf-Christian Dullo, Head of the Palaeo-Oceanography research division of the GEOMAR | Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research and professor at the University of Kiel.

On Thursday, 9 February, the Humboldtians visit institutes of the Univer-sity of Kiel, where the researchers will report on the focus areas of their current research. The fellows will also have the opportunity to network among themselves and with their German colleagues. The Humboldt Foundation will be presenting its profile and programmes to all interested parties in an information presentation, also on 9 February at 4.30 pm.

Most of the participants come from the field of science (51), followed by 21 participants from the humanities and 7 participants from engineering. The majority of foreign guests are from China (14), the USA (12) and Italy (9).
