Reception with over 300 international guests on 19 January in Berlin

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is again inviting numerous guests from academia, politics and business, among them Humboldtians from all five continents, to its annual New Year’s reception on 19 January 2012 in Berlin. The winners of the ideas competition “Research alumni of universities in Germany" will also be presented with their awards as part of the event. The Humboldt Foundation had invited universities to develop concepts for establishing an active and sustainable cooperation with their international research alumni. Research alumni are international scientists and scholars who have previously spent a period conducting research in Germany and are now continuing their academic work abroad. The winners of the award, RWTH Aachen and the universities of Bayreuth and Heidelberg, will each receive 130,000 EUR; honourable mentions go to the universities of Göttingen and Cologne.

The competition is part of the project “International Research Marketing", which is carried out jointly by the Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Research Association (DFG) and the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft under the brand name “Research in Germany". The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. During the reception, Georg Schütte, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and the four partners will present the objectives and activities of the project.
