10/21/09

Source: Research in Germany / DAAD

A delegation of German funding organizations, research institutes and universities will visit Waterloo and Toronto to provide information about research in Germany and the opportunities they have to offer.

The workshops are targeted towards graduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral students, as well as faculty, and will provide information on academic programmes and research opportunities in Germany. Tips will be given on how to find the right academic fit in Germany, how to get a doctoral or postdoc position, and how to develop an independent academic career and establish a research team. The sessions will assess current developments in German higher education and explore different funding opportunities.

Speakers will include representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Max Planck Society, the Hessen Universities Consortium, and the University of Konstanz.

We invite graduate students, postgraduate students, researchers, academics, administrators and journalists to attend the info sessions and receptions.

The Info Tour Canada is organized by the DAAD as part of the initiative “Research in Germany – Land of Ideas” on behalf of the BMBF.

The session in Waterloo will take place on Tuesday 10 November, 2009, from 2:00 – 5:30 pm at the University of Waterloo, 200 University Avenue West, in the William G. Davis Computer Research Centre, Room 1302. The session in Toronto will take place on Wednesday 11 November, 2009, from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm at the University of Toronto, Munk Centre for International Studies, 1 Devonshire Place, Campbell Conference Facility. Each session will be followed by a reception and networking.
