The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the social sciences in key areas:

These priorities are based on specific objectives regarding methodology and content and are intended to provide new impetus for research in the social sciences.

Funding is being provided for example:

  • Measures to improve the basis for scientific work by facilitating access to data in the social and economic sciences and enhancing scientific cooperation and communication on the path towards e-social sciences and e-humanities
  • Innovative methods of reporting on trends in social developments
  • Research on the relationship between society and nature with the aim of contributing towards sustainable development.

Some of the measures support the Strategy for Sustainable Development introduced by the Federal Government. The main objective of this Strategy is to channel social changes in a way that combines the preservation and protection of natural resources with economic prosperity and social justice. Targeted support is being provided to the economic sciences in order to develop ideas for a policy of sustainability.
